If you have endured and/or enjoyed a prolonged absence from the structure and predictability of an office job, returning to work can be quite daunting. Technology has altered the nature of both office work and office workers over the past few years; there's a new set of protocols and procedures to learn, not to mention a whole new language. Returning to work also means conforming to other people’s schedules, meeting other people'’s expectations and accommodating other people's idiosyncrasies.
After spending a quarter of a century as a self-employed person, I recently began a new job in a real estate brokerage. I am both delighted and terrified about my new position but also pleased to discover that you can still teach this old dog a few new tricks.
