A couple of suggestions ... Date: 11/13/2009 Author: Sherry Baker
Sherry,
A couple of suggestions. I am currently working with an outplacement firm called Right Management (I am a client not a consultant of theirs) and one of the social media devices we are heavily using in seeking work is Linkedin.com. You might want to suggest to members that they make use of this, which is free, and a good means of spreading the word that they are available for work. While at first blush this may not seem to directly benefit 55plus pros, getting people to talk about your service through things liked linkedin.com is free advertising for your website. Also have you considered facilitating forums for people who register with your website. Once again, while it has no direct payback, it is a means of spreading the word about it as well as providing people looking for work with a means of exchanging ideas, suggestions and encouragement.
I'm not a technie and the cost of establishing such a forum may be prohibitive, but the kind of intelligence you could gather from the interaction among seasoned job seekers might in turn help you to enrich your site with valuable information that would act as a magnet for job seekers.
I commend to you for your reading: Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies, by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff (2008), Harvard Business Press.
You have my permission to post this on your site.
Michael
Thank you Michael,
These are good suggestions. Does anyone else want me to look into a forum???
